RIVERS OF LIVING WATER: Nothing is more refreshing on a hot summer day than cold water.

“On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” (John 7:37–38)

Jesus stopped by a well and asked a Samaritan woman for water. Within the conversation, Jesus proceeded to make the following statement:

“In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” (John 4:10)

What is this “living water” that Jesus mentions? Understanding the nature of water will help you recognize the importance of this living water.

Jesus left Judea and was heading back to Galilee. On the way back, the Bible tells us that Jesus went through Samaria.

While on this journey with His disciples, Jesus got tired and stopped at a well.

A Samaritan woman went to the well when Jesus asked the Samaritan for a drink of water. She responded below:

“Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.” (John 4:9)

In this context, Jesus is sitting and having a conversation with the woman at a well, and we discover Jesus’ real intention.

He did not go to that well to get water; He went to the well to give water. This is the living water that Jesus talked about.

Jesus came to the world to bring salvation to everyone, and Jesus loved the people of Samaria as much as He loved everyone else. This is the same love Jesus continues to have today.

It is important to understand the living water that Jesus mentions, which refers to the Holy Spirit that Jesus gives everyone who believes.

Drink this living water as much as possible because it will satisfy your soul. Do not be satisfied with just a small amount, but get all you can.

When we drink the living water, we will no longer thirst for the things of the world because we will find fulfillment in the things that Jesus can give.

It is free, and it is available. It is yours; all you have to do is ask, and He will give it to you.

“Heavenly Father, I desire to drink of the Living Water that You have provided for my life in You. You are always available with the flowing of what my life needs. In You, I will live in victory with the freshness of Your Word each and every day. When I realize and walk in that water daily, I will always be ready for what You have for food and water for me each day. What a victorious life in You. Thank You, Father. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
